The Providence Italian Arts & Music Festival will screen the documentary, “BEYOND WISEGUYS: Italian Americans and the Movies,” on Saturday, August 9, at Local 121 Restaurant at 5:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by Stephen Fischler, the film’s award-winning producer/director.
“BEYOND WISEGUYS,” executive produced by renowned actor/director John Turturro, explores the relationship between Italian Americans and American film and television media. It recounts the compelling story of how Italian Americans transformed themselves from “outsiders,” stereotyped by the Hollywood establishment, into a creative force to be reckoned with. Along the way, the documentary confronts the prevailing images of the Italian American as movie mobster.
